Part of the
QAM's charter is to provide for the educational needs of the community.
The Youth Training Scheme is fulfilling this aim by educating
young people on a wide range of aviation topics and encouraging
them to pursue careers in the aviation industry. The main focus
of the YTS is the aircraft maintenance trade - airframe, engines
and structures. The Scheme is open to boys and girls aged 14 to
18. The YTS gives young people the opportunity to:
|
|
Learn
aircraft maintenance trade skills - hand tools, metal forming,
composites, painting, welding, etc. |
|
|
Gain
practical aircraft work experience - fixed wing & helicopters,
military & commercial, modern & historic. |
|
|
Develop
a sense of community spirit - volunteering at the Museum.
|
|
|
Discover
Australia's aviation history. |
Trainees
are provided with a folder in which to record all their achievements
and practical aircraft experience. This will become the basis
of a reference document for prospective employment. YTS instructors
are QAM members, hold a Qld Commission for Children and Young
People Blue Card and are current or former aircraft tradesmen.
Young persons wishing to join the YTS are required to become a
Junior/Student member of the Museum and pay the applicable annual
membership fee. In addition to the annual QAM membership fee,
there is a once-only YTS joining fee of $15.00. There are limited
positions available and a waiting period may apply.
