Queensland
Tourism Awards 2002
The Queensland Tourism Awards were held in Brisbane on 29th November. For the
second consecutive year we won a Finalist nomination. The winner of our category
was the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. Other finalists were Paronella Park (last
year's winner), Waltzing Matilda Centre, The LARC and 1770 Environmental Tours.
It is a great achievement to receive a finalist nomination given that the competition
mostly have a great deal more money invested in their product. To receive back-to-back
finalist nominations even exceeded the expectations of our Marketing and Promotions
Manager, James Wing. This is our fourteenth tourism award (win, finalist or highly
commended) since 1992. Again this year we used the services of a Sunshine Coast
based marketing company, Down to Business, to prepare a very innovative award
submission which impressed the judges. It is worth noting that there were 40 Sunshine
Coast nominees at this year's Queensland Tourism Awards. Of these, there were
two winners, nine finalists and one directions award. We extend our thanks to
Down to Business and to James and Kathy Wing for all their hard work on the submission.
