Two Caloundra
community workers have been recognised by Member for Fisher Peter
Slipper for their voluntary service to the community.
At a ceremony at the Queensland Air Museum, Mr Slipper presented
a "Certificate of Appreciation to Australian Volunteers" to Mr
Greg McKean and Mr Michael Hinsbey.
"Without the dedication and hard work of those who give freely
of their time to help others, many community organisations, including
service groups and sporting clubs, would struggle to be successful,"
Mr Slipper said.
"While most volunteers don't seek praise for their efforts and
are content with the personal satisfaction for a job done well
to the benefit of their community, it is important that these
hardworking community members do get some recognition from their
peers and their fellow citizens."
Mr Greg McKean was recognised for his service to the community
through the Night Eyes Volunteer Waterways and Landcare Group,
the Golden Beach Citizens and Ratepayers Association and for involvement
in organising sport and recreation for handicapped children.
Mr Michael Hinsbey was recognised his volunteer service to the
community through the Queensland Air Museum, where he has served
often seven days a week since 1988.
Mr Slipper said volunteers made a significant contribution to
Australia and it is good that they be recognised for their dedication
and commitment.
Those wanting to nominate a local volunteer for a "Certificate
of Appreciation to Australian Volunteers" can contact Richard
