The Queensland Air Museum celebrated
100 years of controlled, powered flight in a re-enactment ceremony at Caloundra
Aerodrome on Wednesday 17th December 2003. At 10.35am, Tiger Moth VH-PLF, operated
by Tiger Moth Joy Flights of Caloundra, re-enacted the Wright Brothers first successful
flight. Some observers were surprised to hear the pilot cut the throttle so soon
after take-off, but this marked the completion of 120 feet, the same distance
covered by the Wright Brothers 100 years ago. To further highlight the historical
significance of the day, the aircraft carried aloft several historical aviation
artefacts from the QAM collection. After the Tiger Moth had landed, the LET-410
9L-LCE operated by Sunshine Coast Skydivers performed a flypast to demonstrate
the advances in aircraft design.

QAM's Marketing and
Promotions Manager, James "Wilbur" Wing, accepts the QAM "time
capsule" at the completion of the flight.
