Queensland
Air Museum welcomes donations of funds and historic aviation material.
Cash donations of $2 and above are approved by the Australian
Taxation Office as an allowable deduction.
Historic aviation material may take the form of aircraft parts,
uniforms, memorabilia, books, photographs or even complete aircraft
or engines but need not be limited to these categories.
QAM is an approved recipient institution under the Australian
Government's Cultural Gifts Program whereby high value items,
such as complete aircraft, can be gifted to the Museum with a
taxation benefit to the donor. Anyone contemplating donating an
aeroplane to QAM under the terms of the CGP is reminded that the
aeroplane will attract a higher valuation if it is not subjected
to parts reclamation before donation.
Whilst QAM is most appreciative of the ongoing generosity of members
of the public, it is regretted that space considerations dictate
that not every offer of a donation can be accepted. Furthermore,
QAM cannot undertake to place on display every item donated to
the Museum. In many instances it is necessary to store donated
items because of a lack of display space. In some instances it
is even necessary to store items away from QAM's main facility
at Caloundra. Occasionally, donated items will be incorporated
internally into an existing exhibit in which case the donated
item will not be visible to the public.
For these
reasons, we request that all offers of donations should be made
in writing, either by post or by email (see below). Please do
not bring items to the Museum unannounced as this may result in
embarrassment if it is necessary to decline the item. (This does
not apply to prior donors who have existing arrangements for the
delivery of donations.)
Having stated that this is our preferred method, we understand
that writing letters and filling out forms may not be your preference.
If the alternative is taking the item to the tip, then please
bring it in to the Museum. Perhaps you might like to call us on
(07)54925930 to arrange a suitable time.
It is QAM policy that the acceptance and processing of donations
should be handled with diligence. This may not be possible if
unannounced donations arrive at busy times when our volunteer
staff are fully occupied greeting Museum visitors.
QAM receives frequent offers to donate items in the following
categories. These notes are provided for the guidance of prospective
donors:

|
Models:
Completed plastic kits generally will be respectfully declined
unless they are completed to a particularly high standard
and/or comprise a special theme. QAM's preferred scale is
1/48. Unbuilt model kits in original packaging will be accepted
on the understanding that they may be sold in the QAM shop. |
|
|
Magazines:
The basic guideline is - the older the better. Duplicate magazines
can be accepted on the understanding that they may be sold
in the QAM shop. There is, however, little demand for recent
issues. |
|
|
Photographs:
Aviation related photographs are generally always accepted.
Photo albums are sometimes offered to the Museum on loan for
copying and return. This arrangement works well for families
who wish to safeguard precious photographs but who are not
yet ready to part with a family album. |
As a general rule, QAM tries to avoid accepting items on loan.
QAM thanks you for considering us as the repository for your precious
items. Please contact us at the following addresses to discuss
the matter further:

Donations
by QAM
QAM frequently receives
requests from many worthy causes requesting donations towards
their work. As QAM itself is a registered charity, it is regretted
that we cannot meet all of these requests. Accordingly, it is
QAM policy that our nominated charity will be the Royal Flying
Doctor Service of Australia (Queensland Section).
