AVRO ANSON MK I MG222


 

 

 

Queensland Air Museum holds an Anson which was long thought to be MG390 although it is now believed to be MG222. This is supported by the fact that the Military and Historical Aircraft Collection at Greenock, South Australia hold an Anson claimed to be MG390. This collection is owned by Lincoln Nitschke. The following chronology refers to MG222.

 Received at No 2 Aircraft Park, Bankstown.
27JAN44
 Received No 3 Air Observers School, Port Pirie.
06JUN44
 Bristol turret removed.
26JAN45
 Request allotment for mainplane repair beyond the capacity of unit. When and where this repair was carried out is not clear although it may have been done by No 3 AOS after all as the aircraft was obviously back in the air by 23AUG45.
23AUG45
 Collided in formation with LV288 damaging a wing tip.
01FEB46
 Allotted to No 5 Civil Repair Depot for storage.
20AUG47
 Passed to the Dept of Aircraft Production.
12DEC47
 DAP action taken.
C.1977
 Purchased by Queensland Air Museum from Geoff Moesker who had trucked the aircraft from South Australia. Air-Britain claims that the aeroplane came from a property at Bute, S.A.
MAY90
 Moved from storage in Hendra Woolshed to David Bussey's residence.

 Deleted an image of an Anson airframe on a truck at Springbrook. This airframe was previously thought to be MG222 but it has since been identified as VH-BIE (which see).
